The summer blockbuster season officially is upon us, with Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story duking it out with the summer's undisputed champ (so far), Avengers: Infinity War. But when you have dinosaurs in your cast, you always have an advantage. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will take a bite out of the box-office pie in June, and based on the early reactions to the very first screening in Madrid last night, the film's odds of success are high!

A lot of the reactions are in Spanish. There are rough translations around, but let's start here:

That's a wide range of emotions to cover over the course of one movie... and a bit of a surprise for what amounts to the fifth chapter in a saga. But that's encouraging! So is this:

Ten minutes of applause? What is this, Cannes? No, then people might "Boooo" the sight of a dinosaur on the screen. They'd also boo if this next Tweet really happened. I am going to attempt the Google translator on this Tweet. You will see why in a second.

Gross. But also, high praise! Listen, the biggest reason that we remain excited for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is because of the director. JA Bayona is responsible for some of the greatest films in our modern era, from the tearjerker A Monster Calls to the harrowing and heartwrenching The Impossible. Handing him the keys to the Jurassic Park franchise is a gift (as I called him the new Spielberg in my Impossible review), and we are very, very excited to see where he takes this sequel.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. It brings their characters from Jurassic World back to the island for a rescue mission, but then shifts the action to the mainland, where villains are selling off hybrid dinosaurs as weapons. Art and life often imitate each other in nuanced and unexpected ways, but sometimes the similarities are so considerable and blatant that it is almost comical. Such is the case with the saga of Red Granite Productions, the production company behind Martin Scorsese's Academy Award-nominated film, The Wolf of Wall Street. Red Granite Productions has agreed to pay $60 million to the U.S. government to settle a lawsuit stemming from the potential illegality of the funds used to finance its films.

This gets rather complicated, so let's first look at why Red Granite Productions was in trouble in the first place. The Los Angeles-based production company, behind The Wolf of Wall Street, as well as Daddy's Home and Dumb and Dumber To was accused by the U.S. Department of Justice of accepting money to finance those films from a Malaysian government investment fund that was at the center of a fraud case. The fund, 1Malaysia Development Berhad, hereby referred to as 1MDB, allegedly siphoned off funds into various places, including Red Granite Productions, which was co-founded by Riza Aziz, the stepson of the Malaysian Prime Minister. 1MDB was started by the government to benefit the people of Malaysia, but in a case of corruption, billions were embezzled. The embezzled money was used for a variety of opulent expenditures that definitely didn't benefit the people of Malaysia. In addition to financing the films and throwing a lavish launch party, the money was also used to purchase prime American real estate and paintings by Picasso, Van Gogh and Monet. So basically, people took money meant to do good and used it to enrich themselves. Then, they got caught.

According to CNN Media, Red Granite Productions will pay the $60 million in three installments over the next year. Although the company will be forking over this tidy sum, the California court filing states that the settlement does not constitute any admission of wrongdoing or liability by Red Granite Productions. This scandal has been going on for a while, and there have been calls for Leonardo DiCaprio to return the money he made on The Wolf of Wall Street. In addition, DiCaprio has even had to make a statement that he was cooperating with the DOJ. This isn't the first time The Wolf of Wall Street has faced legal issues, either. A man named Andrew Greene has tried to sue Leonardo DiCaprio and Paramount, stating that one of the characters in the film was taken from his likeness and has damaged his reputation.

While this has no doubt been a headache, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio continue to have exciting projects ahead of them. Martin Scorsese's wildly expensive Netflix film The Irishman just wrapped photography, and Leonardo DiCaprio was just cast in Quentin Tarantino's ninth film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. While superhero movies and cinematic universes are everywhere, the DC world is a unique beast. Despite major blockbusters approaching with Aquaman and Shazam!, the overall plan for the cinematic universe is largely a mystery to the public. DC has big plans for Batman villain The Joker, including Todd Phillips' upcoming origin story. A project separate from the greater DCEU, the film has recently begun assembling a cast, led by Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime. While most of the project is a mystery, a new report indicates that Phillips is casting the Joker's mother, and has Oscar winner Frances McDormand in mind. There's just one hitch: it looks like she passed on the project.

This new report comes to us from a reporter from The Wrap, who claims that not only is the Joker's mother a character in the upcoming movie - but Frances McDormand decided not to join the cast. While plenty of actors are dying to get involved in a superhero project, the Three Billboards actress unfortunately decided against it.

Frances McDormand may have reportedly passed on a role in the Joker origin movie, but this report indicates that director Todd Phillips may be looking for big names to play the role. McDormand is one of the most celebrated actresses of the past year, so one has to wonder what other stars Phillips will approach to play Mr. J's darling mommy.

This new report, while unconfirmed by the studio, is sure to get the attention of hardcore DC fans out there. Feelings surrounding Todd Phillips' Joker movie have been mixed. While Joaquin Phoenix seems like a great actor to play the beloved villain, the idea of exploring and explaining Joker's intentions goes against the grain. Part of what made The Joker terrifying in most comics and certainly The Dark Knight was that he had no rhyme or reason to his madness. He was an agent of anarchy, and there was no getting into his head or explaining his terrifying actions. An origin story gives the character a heart, which may result in Joker being far less scary than normal.

Todd Phillip's Joker movie isn't the only project being developed about the Clown Prince of Crime. Among DC's myriad announced movies, there's going to be a solo movie starring Jared Leto's version of the character, which debuted in David Ayer's less than stellar Suicide Squad. There were also talks of Joker/Harley movie being made, and there's always the possibility that Mr. J will have a role in Suicide Squad 2. There's a lot up in the air over at DC, and Batman's ultimate nemesis seems to be at the center of it.
