International Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Has Rocket Cracking Jokes At Thor's Expense

One of the highlights of the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War will be watching Marvel characters who have never met on screen interact for the first time. A new trailer shows us what will happen when wisecracking Rocket crosses paths with serious Thor. As it turns out, it's pretty funny. The international trailer opens with Thor giving an impassioned speech about the importance of working together in order to defeat the massive threat that is Thanos. Rocket's initial reaction is far from inspired, though it turns out, he's really just messing with the Asgardian. Check out the trailer below.

Rocket implies that he'd rather just skip the whole "all hope is lost" thing, but it turns out he's just screwing around with Thor. It's not clear if the shot of Thor with the massive smile is actually what follows that moment, or just a well-inserted scene from elsewhere, but we can guess Thor felt some relief when he realized Rocket was kidding. It's possible Rocket's response in the trailer isn't even actually a response to Thor's speech in the film, it could be taken entirely out of context as trailers often do, but the two clips certainly work well together.

The trailer, from MarvelTW, also gives us another comedic moment at the end with a pair of characters who will be meeting for the first time in Avengers: Infinity War, we've seen it before, but the moment with Spider-Man and Doctor Strange is still a good one.

Just like the first Avengers film, when we weren't quite sure what would happen when characters like Captain America and Iron Man tried to work together, Infinity War is making a large part of its appeal the first interactions of all of Marvels Phase Two and Phase Three heroes with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We got something of a tease for it all with Captain America: Civil War, but Infinity War will take it all to the next level.

Rocket and Thor is a perfect example of how some of these interactions could be very interesting, as the Guardians of the Galaxy have a much more comedic focus than most of the rest of the MCU, seeing any of them working alongside other Marvel heroes has the potential for comedy, even when the end of the world is coming down around their ears.

With March very nearly over, the April 27 release date for Avengers: Infinity War is in sight. It's almost hard to believe that it's been 10 years since the MCU experiment began. Whoever your favorite hero is, you'll get to see them in four weeks when Infinity War finally arrives.

What I said was that one way to address the breakdown of the sponsorship model was to cut costs. People love to pick nits at things they like, but if anyone thinks that Disney has been doing any significant cost-cutting at Epcot then you're in for a really big shock if they ever actually start doing some.

Top Gun: Maverick Just Cast Goose's Son

Top Gun: Maverick Just Cast Goose's Son

It's been over 30 years since Top Gun was released in theaters, and the passage of time will definitely be felt in the upcoming sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. Arguably the biggest example of this is that the son of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell's deceased wingman, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, will be one of the main characters in the sequel. Last week, it was reported that the frontrunners for the role were Nicholas Hoult, Glen Powell and Miles Teller, and now word's come in that Teller will be the one to play Goose's son.

This Top Gun: Maverick updates comes from Variety, which reports that Miles Teller has been tapped as Goose's son, who still hasn't been named yet. While his father had a close relationship with Tom Cruise's lead character, Teller's character will be Maverick's new protege, although it's previously been rumored that the teacher and student will share an antagonistic relationship. Teller is the third actor to be added to Top Gun: Maverick, following behind Cruise (duh) and Val Kilmer, who's reprising Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, Maverick's former rival. Teller's other notable credits include Whiplash, the Divergent movies, the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot, War Dogs and Only the Brave.

Joining Top Gun: Maverick is the latest major movie Teller can add to his resume, and looking at him, I suppose I can see a resemblance between him and Anthony Edwards. For those who've forgotten, Goose died in Top Gun when he and Maverick ejected as their aircraft went into a unrecoverable flat spin. Maverick made it out safely, but Goose hit his head on the jettisoned aircraft canopy, killing him instantly. His son was only a toddler when that happened, so Goose Jr. sadly grew up not really knowing his father, but evidently flying runs deep in this family.

Alas, with Miles Teller having secured the role of Goose's son in Top Gun: Maverick, that means X-Men: Apocalypse's Nicholas Hoult and Hidden Figures' Glen Powell will need to find a different blockbuster project. Powell even commented on losing the role on Twitter, though it doesn't sound like his appreciation for Tom Cruise has dwindled as a result.

No specific plot details for Top Gun: Maverick have been revealed yet, but reportedly the sequel will explore the end of the era of dogfighting as drone warfare and fifth generation fighters become more prominent. Tron: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski has inherited the directing reins from the late Tony Scott, and the attached writers include Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz.

Top Gun: Maverick flies into theaters on July 12, 2019, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates on the sequel. Don't forget to also scan through our 2018 release schedule to learn what movies are arriving later this year.
