Venom and Spider-Man tend to go hand in hand. It's hard to have one without the other. But later this year, Sony will try to get a Venom movie off the ground and into theaters without the help of Marvel's favorite wall-crawler. Thankfully, Ruben Fleischer's Venom has Tom Hardy on its side, and we get our first look at the lethal protector in the debut trailer for the October release below. Check it out!
This first footage gives us an initial look at Tom Hardy's portrayal of Eddie Brock. And in Venom, he looks like he's going through a tough time. As he says, sometimes we are dealing with hardships in our lives. A break up (and they show his love interest, Michelle Williams). An accident. Something that changes you from what you were, to what you have now become.
The trailer stops short of actually SHOWING us Tom Hardy as Venom... and that's a real head-scratcher. But it goes to some lengths to suggest the origin of the alien symbiote, as I believe the crash is a possible space crash, looking like a large shuttle. Is this how the symbiote that eventually bonds to Eddie Brock reaches our planet? We see shots of lab scientists studying materials. And we even get a glimpse of the symbiote, contained in a vial:
Just... not Venom. How do you not put Venom in the first Venom trailer?
For now, Venom is being viewed as a standalone movie, one that Sony is developing apart from the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- where Tom Holland's Spider-Man exists -- but one that MIGHT run concurrent to the events of the MCU. We don't think that it connects to Sony's planned Black Cat and Silver Sable movie (as there hasn't been much development on that project, from details we've been able to pick up), but we're really hoping that Holland can find his way into this world and trade punches with Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock... either in this movie, or in a future chapter.
Venom will be in theaters on October 5. It stars Tom Hardy, and he'll be joined by Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate and Riz Ahmed. We're going to need another, fuller trailer on this one eventually, because this tease raised more questions than it answered. Is Carnage in this? Why is Eddie Brock getting an MRI? What will Venom actually look like? We have a long way to go until October, but with this, Venom has taken its first steps. What did you think?

Don Cheadle ended up taking on the role starting with Iron Man 2, which saw Rhodey become the superheroic War Machine. Ryan Reynolds says he's still looking for the person who leaked the first images of Deadpool, four years after the video was put on the test. The franchise had problems getting the nod until someone uploaded clips of the actor who plays the superhero.

The film opens in 1987 as Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and his wife Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) are set to go on a mission, leaving their young daughter Hope (Madeleine McGraw) in the care of their housekeeper. As Ant-Man and the Wasp, they shrink themselves to stop a Soviet nuclear missile from detonating inside American territory.

Whereas a good portion of DC's films have been more serious, it seems the Booster Gold/Blue Beetle movie will be lighter and more comedic, playing off of the interesting contrasts and similarities in the characters' personalities.

To some, this seems like an audacious move and something to be applauded given the weight of their deaths but respected Star Wars writer, Timothy Zahn is not a big fan of killing off major characters.

By our calculations, it's possible that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won't arrive in theaters until 2023, due to James Gunn's new commitment to DC and The Suicide Squad.
