Turns Out John Krasinski Had A Second Role In A Quiet Place
Close the door and the blinds, because it looks like we are amidst a new horror golden age, with A Quiet Place's box office success being a sound contributor. The low-budget film exhibited the powerful terror of silence and positioned John Krasinski as a talented filmmaker. Along with Krasinski taking on the roles of A Quiet Place's lead, co-writer and director, he also kept one of his other essential roles underwraps: he played the terrifying creature himself. Here's how he ended up under the mask of the movie's monster:
The amazing people at ILM asked, 'So how does the creature move?' and I said, 'Well, this is how I think he's gonna crawl.' And they said, 'Well, why don't you throw on the suit?' And I was like, 'Totally!' And then they took that picture and I thought I was auditioning for Lion King.
During a visit at Jimmy Kimmel Live, the show's host revealed John Krasinski's little-known role with a little resistance from the actor. Kimmel revealed a photo of Krasinski roaring in a motion capture suit to the audience as the actor joked that it would end his career. While it seemed like his role as the creature was out of necessity of it representing his vision as co-writer and director of the horror flick, it also shows an admirable investment in the project and versatility as an actor. John Krasinski explained earlier in the interview that although A Quiet Place may look terrifying on the outside, at its core it's a love letter to his daughter. Behind the jump scares and suspense, the film tackled the life of a family struggling to survive in a fear-stricken world full of death and despair. So the filmmaker's massive contribution to the film makes a lot of sense, as it was a passion project for him. Krasinski also starred alongside his wife, Emily Blunt, for the film. He wrote with her character with her in mind, but was apprehensive to ask her to star in without her impartial interest.
Having made over $334 million worldwide, A Quiet Place quickly cemented itself as a commercial powerhouse this year. Considering its modest production budget of $17 million, the movie blaringly exceeded expectations. Following this success, the film has already has officially been given a sequel, coming on May 15, 2020. Krasinski recently started working on the sequel, with a chilling main concept starting to take flight.
Considering the ending to A Quiet Place, Krasinski may not have the same number of hats to change for the sequel, but if his name is on it and he keeps it a passion project, we can't wait to see what will come next for the franchise. A Quiet Place is currently available to watch at home on Digital HD and Blu-ray.
