Netflix's New The Week Of Trailer Pits Adam Sandler Against Chris Rock
Ever since their days working together on Saturday Night Live, Adam Sandler and Chris Rock have collaborated on a number of different projects. Now they're about to once again team up, but this time in the streaming world. On that note, a new trailer for their upcoming film, Robert Smigel's The Week Of, has just hit the web, and it features the two comedy legends squaring off the week they're supposed to become in-laws. Check out the trailer, below.
That is about as classic as a comedy premise can get. The Week Of (as the title suggests) focuses on a group of families coming together the week of a wedding. The two families come from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, and at the center of it all are the diametrically opposed personalities of the two fathers -- played by Chris Rock and Adam Sandler. Rock appears to be taking on the role of the straight man in the film, while Sandler is embracing a personality akin to Bobby Boucher from The Water Boy and delivering a more outlandish and bizarre performance.
With that said, one specific thing that seems relevant to note about The Week Of is that it doesn't look like it's aiming for the same type of offbeat comedy seen in other Adam Sandler and Chris Rock collaborations, like the Grown Ups movies. Sure, there re plenty of jokes and humor scattered throughout this trailer, but the core of the movie looks like it will be anchored in some darker and more emotional territory more in-line with Sandler's work on films like Punch Drunk Love.
Another thing worth pointing out about The Week Of is that it looks like a film populated by plenty of frequent collaborators with Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratch gets a few great moments to shine, and Golden Globe-winner Steve Buscemi even pops up holding a comically-large Toberlone bar.
The Week Of marks the latest in a long line of Netflix projects involving Chris Rock and Adam Sandler. Rock has made the streaming platform his go-to home for stand-up over the course of the last few years, and Adam Sandler has released several movies on the streaming service like The Ridiculous 6, Sandy Wexler, and The Do-Over. Now they're teaming up to share top billing on a significant Netflix project, and we're incredibly intrigued to see what they will do together.
The Week Of will debut on Netflix this spring on April 27. As for the rest of the movies set to debut in 2018, you can take a look at CinemaBlend's movie premiere guide and our Netflix premiere schedule to see what's coming and mark your calendars accordingly!
