Mark Hamill Congratulated Adam Driver On His Oscar Nom With A Subtle Star Wars Reference

While the original Star Wars was nominated for several Oscars, including Best Picture, the subsequent films have been relegated to awards for the special effects, sound, or the music. While the most recent Star Wars movie did get a visual effects nomination, one Star Wars actor did very well for himself, as Kylo Ren himself, Adam Driver, received a nomination for best Supporting Actor for Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman. The congratulations are now pouring in, including from Driver's Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill, who honored Driver in the most Star Wars way possible.

BlacKkKlansman follows John David Washington's character as a police officer who successfully makes in roads into the KKK over the phone, but he needs a white man to play his part in-person. Adam Driver takes that role, and he pretends to be interested in joining the group in order to learn more about what they are planning.

Mark Hamill points out that Driver plays a good guy pretending to bad, and since Hamill feels the need to point that out, it seems clear he's potentially drawing a connection between the role of Flip Zimmerman and the role of Ben Solo.

Of course, Mark Hamill makes it a habit to troll Star Wars fans on social media, so the idea that he's implying that Kylo Ren is secretly good is almost certainly just another troll move.

After all, Kylo Ren killed his own father, a fan-favorite character, and also killed off his master, Supreme Leader Snoke. While the latter might have been a villain, it still wasn't exactly a Light Side move.

Of course, exactly what's going to happen to Ben Solo by the end of the current Star Wars trilogy is one of the big questions left for Star Wars Episode IX to answer. While Kylo Ren seems to be far past the point of redemption, the possibility for a last minute change of heart is always there. It's exactly what happened to his idol, Darth Vader, though the fact that we've seen it before could make it less likely to occur this time around. The major criticism for J.J., Abrams first Star Wars movie was that it followed the formula of Star Wars: A New Hope a little too closely. Especially following on the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, that seems unlikely to happen for the final episode of the trilogy.

Still, Kylo Ren has a lot of fans, if only because Adam Driver is a legitimately great actor. They would love to see the character become a hero in the final film.

If anything, the fact that Mark Hamill makes such a hint is probably a mark against such an idea, as Hamill has never revealed real spoilers before, though he often acts like he is going to. In the end, we'll have to wait until Episode IX comes out this December to be sure.
